Gazillion Entertainment Reaches MMO games

Eveloper Blizzard reshaped MMOs with World of Warcraft and no company has come close to pushing over the online champ. But that’s not going to stop Gazillion Entertainment from trying, which announced today that it has reached an agreement with Marvel Entertainment to license Marvel content in its upcoming MMO games.

The ten-year deal will allow Gazillion Entertainment, a startup with members from Apple, Pixar and Blizzard, to use Spiderman, Wolverine, Incredible Hulk and any of the other 5,000-plus characters in the Marvel universe.

“Marvel’s library features a large and world-renowned stable of characters, making it tailor made for massively multiplayer entertainment that will appeal to a wide audience eager for more opportunities to interact with these iconic character franchises,” said Simon Philips, President, Worldwide Consumer Products for Marvel Entertainment. “Gazillion’s excellence in casual and AAA MMOs makes this an ideal partnership to fully leverage this powerful entertainment arena, bringing fans an exciting, interactive experience with the Marvel brand.”

With former members from successful, high-end companies (including rival Blizzard) and a massive deal with a hugely popular entity, perhaps this is exactly what’s needed to knock World of Warcraft off its throne. Stay tuned for official game announcements as they come.
